History

Have you considered that the Garden of Eden was meant to be

understood as real history? Does this mean that there was a walking, talking snake? If any of this were true, we would expect people to remember some of the details and carry that memory with them when they left the Tower of Babel. We find such details in a 12 foot tall, bronze, fruit tree that was excavated in 1986 near Guanghan, China (dated about 4000 years old, secular dating).

Attached to this 12-foot bronze fruit tree were a human hand and a snake with feet. Genesis 3:6 records that Eve took forbidden fruit from the tree and ate. Genesis 3 continues with the snake being cursed by God such that it was changed to move about on its belly. This implies that previously the snake had legs and walked. The temptation of Eve was a real event in history and the Chinese recorded it in one of their artifacts.

Upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.

Have you ever noticed how the colors on a butterfly or moth wing seem to change and almost glow as it flies through the air? Pilots flying above the rainforests in South America have reported seeing the bright blues of the morpho butterfly up to half a mile away! What makes the butterfly wing so vibrant and colorful? Butterfly wings are covered with two or three layers of microscopic scales separated by air. Light passing through these layers is scattered, and depending on the angle of view, the light waves recombine in different combinations of different wavelengths. This is called diffraction, which produces iridescence. The multiple layers of scales on a butterfly wing create these intensely shifting color hues.

The scales of butterfly wings are made of very thin layers of a hardened protein called chitin. Your hair and nails are made of this same protein. These scales protect and insulate the insects and aid in the flow of air along their wings. The scales also help the butterfly absorb heat. Since butterflies are cold-blooded, they rely on external sources of heat.

But where did the butterfly’s beauty and complexity come from? Neither the beauty nor the structure of the butterfly wing has ever been explained by evolution. Those who reject creation throw the word “evolution” at such complex creatures and assume that just using the word explains how they developed. To produce these iridescent colors requires complex optical physics and mathematics. Could this phenomenon of iridescence happen by accident and chance? Caterpillars are not made of chitin scales, but butterflies are, so how would the caterpillar develop this characteristic slowly and randomly over time in order to become a butterfly? If evolution were true, we should first find a butterfly without chitin scales and then a butterfly with chitin scales. We find nothing like this in the fossil record. The oldest butterfly and moth fossils are fully formed and developed, looking essentially identical to current moths and butterflies.

Butterflies, with their beauty and complexity, proclaim there is a God!

Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

The giant silk moth can have a wing area of over 60 square inches with a tail over 8 inches long. Cleaning this insect off your windshield just might empty your washer fluid! Yet every portion of the wings and tail is covered with intricately-designed scales, which produce beautiful iridescent patterns. But why are they so beautiful? The Christian perspective is that their beauty reflects the character of their Maker. The evolutionary perspective is that they are simply a product of chance. Which perspective is correct?

Those working to explain all of life without God make up stories to explain why butterflies are so beautiful. They say the gorgeous colors exist to draw mates or camouflage the insects from predators. Yet the brilliant coloration does the opposite of hiding the insects. The 1500 known species of the giant silk moth fly only at night when the brilliant coloration cannot be seen. Why would a moth with “eyespots” need these spots when it only comes out at night?

Butterflies and moths confound those who wish to believe God does not exist. Not only do both kinds of flying insects transform themselves from a leaf-chewing, land-bound caterpillar into a nectar-sucking, flying wonder, but each can be breathtaking in its beauty. Neither the origin of this flying insect, nor the explanation for its beauty, can be explained by evolution; it is only by looking at God that we find the answer. He is the master Creator of beauty – all-knowing and all-powerful!

He hath made everything beautiful in his time….

Scientists have discovered that gold veins can be produced in an instant (a few tenths of a second) and do not require huge time periods. Veins of gold are produced when hot fluids flowing through cracks deep in the earth’s crust depressurize rapidly - causing the minerals and metals to fall out of the hot fluid solution. The “flash deposition” of gold is a result of earthquakes opening up cracks. Gold can often be found in these sideways, zigzagging fault jogs - cracks that are connected to main fault lines in rocks. Earthquakes can make gold veins in an instant as cracks open and the pressure drops, causing the precious metals to be flash deposited. Gold does not take millions of years to form within the rock layers of the earth. During the Flood of Noah’s day, there would have been intense earthquake activity that could have produced gold in a flash as it precipitated out of solution.

It is sad how much death, human misery, slavery, and corruption has been caused by the search for gold and riches. Heaven is described as a place where gold is so common the streets are paved with it. Things humans typically value (such as gold) turn out to be rather commonplace in the end. The world desires gold, yet gold pales in comparison to God’s Word and the wisdom and meaning it can bring to our lives.

More to be desired [is God’s Word] than gold, yea, than much fine gold:….

Christian Truth

While on the cross, Jesus experienced a taste of hell in at least six very real ways:

  1. Jesus was conscious during His time of suffering on the cross. He felt the scourging, nailing, and torturing pain of crucifixion. Hell is a place of “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Luke 13:28, Matthew 13:50). In hell, one will be conscious of suffering.
  2. Darkness was experienced by Jesus “from the sixth hour (12 noon) until the ninth hour (3 pm)” (Matthew 27:45). Hell will be the blackest of darkness.
  3. Jesus was surrounded by demonic powers. Colossians 2:15 states, “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it [the cross]”. We do not fully see this spiritual conflict taking place on Calvary, but this dark force of demons would have poured out their evil jeers and hatred on Christ.
  4. Jesus bore our sins in His body on the tree (1 Peter 2:24) because God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). God laid the iniquity of us all on Him (Isaiah 53:6). Christ was our sinbearer. In Hell, we will bear our sins.
  5. Jesus experienced hell on the cross by taking the punishment for sin. During those hours of darkness, He bore our sins and endured our punishment. God poured out His wrath on sin. That is what Hell is, receiving the punishment for the sins we deserve.
  6. Christ was separated from the love of God. To be separated from God’s love is to be removed from all that is wonderful and lovely. Hell is being conscious of suffering, in total blackest darkness, surrounded by demonic powers, bearing the guilt of sin, coming under the judgment of God, and being eternally separated from love. The hell of hells is knowing that you could have followed God and that you passed up this opportunity--forever! Hell is for real. But, God has provided a way out. It is through His son Jesus Christ. He was the one that paid the price for your sins. All you need to do is admit: I am a sinner; repent: I am sorry for my sins; believe: Jesus paid the price by dying on the cross; and accept: Jesus is my Lord and Savior. The invitation is given; the time is now.

For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like we are yet without sin.

History

When did the concept of millions of years of earth history first creep into academic thought? For thousands of years of human history, in almost every culture around the world, it was universally acknowledged that humanity was a relatively recent creation of God. Modern textbooks imply that it was during the “rise of science” in the 1700s that geologists “discovered” that the rock layers of the earth were millions of years. In reality, this revisionist history has turned the truth completely upside down. The rejection of God’s Word came first, resulting in the misinterpretation of the earth’s rock layers.

In 1492 Columbus first crossed the Atlantic and “discovered” America. In actuality, he landed on what is now the Dominican Republic, and after exploring the area, he returned to Spain in 1493, taking with him some native North Americans. To understand the impact of this event, you need to understand the culture of that day. The church strongly influenced both governmental and social structures in all European countries and was arguably the most powerful social institution of the day. It controlled educational thought and, in the 1400s, still accepted the early parts of the Bible as true historical events. Thus, it was widely taught that the worldwide Flood of Genesis 6-9 was a real event and all people on earth were descendants of Noah’s sons – Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Furthermore, it was widely accepted that the Europeans were primarily descendants of Japheth, Africans were primarily descendants of Ham, and Asians were primarily descendants of Shem. They believed this explained the very different skin coloring and facial characteristics of different races of people. What they did not understand is that the genetic composition of all people was already created within the DNA and both Adam and later Noah. The children of Shem, Ham and Japheth would have displayed a wide variety of appearances, not just the narrow variation which came after the tower of Babel.

When Columbus arrived back in Europe, he disembarked with people who did not look like Europeans, Africans, or Asians. Since it was widely taught that all people descended from Noah’s sons, and these “creatures” did not look like any of the sons of Noah (Europeans, Africans, or Asians), the church had a huge mystery on its hands. Some church leaders argued that these Naive Americans could not even be human! Eventually the church came to a faulty conclusion – since these people did not look like the sons of Noah, they could not be descendants of Noah.

They solved the mystery by rejecting what the Word of God teaches. They arbitrarily concluded that there had never been a world-covering flood upon the earth in spite of the fact that the Bible is crystal-clear on this issue.

It took about 100 years for this general consensus to be widely accepted, but by the 1700’s, when earth scientists were studying the rock layers of the earth, many of them no longer accepted that these sedimentary rocks (and the fossils they contained) were a testimony to the worldwide Flood from the days of Noah. Therefore, the only other logical explanation for the existence of extensive layers of sedimentary rock (in some places thousands of feet deep) was enormous periods of time and slow accumulation. Thus millions, and later billions, of years of earth history became accepted as a “fact of science.” Long forgotten is that this is just a faulty interpretation of the rock layers based on the rejection of the truth (a world-covering flood created these layers).

Slow changes over enormous time became the only accepted viewpoint in the 1700’s to explain the geology of our planet (geological evolution); leading directly to the belief in slow changes over enormous periods of time to explain all of biology (biological evolution) in the 1800’s; leading directly to slow changes over enormous periods of time to explain all the matter and energy in the universe (cosmic evolution) in the 1900’s.

Today, evolutionism is the only explanation taught to students. It is so widely repeated throughout our educational, museum, and media systems that few people question its assumptions or understand how this philosophical framework for interpreting the world around us arose. It was the rejection over 500 years ago of what the Bible teaches about geology (the worldwide Flood) that ultimately led to the current situation where most of Western civilization has rejected all of God’s Word as accurate and relevant. An ever-increasing proportion of people are now rejecting the very existence of God Himself. Ideas have consequences! Ideas not based on God’s truth have dire consequences!

You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking.

Geology

Every day, cliffs are weathering away. Water seeps into tiny crevices and separates the rock by freezing (expanding) and then thawing (contracting). Tree roots make gaps in the rocks, and rainwater can cause chemical changes to weaken rock. Every year at Mt. Rushmore, workers rappel down the cliff face to inject glue into newly formed cracks on the presidents’ faces.

Normal cliffs erode rapidly. Weakened cliffs result in rocks tumbling to the canyon floor. These rocks on the canyon floor are called talus. If you believe in evolution and the earth having been here for billions of years, these talus piles should be enormous - reaching to the top of the cliff. Yet, what we see in places like Monument Valley or the Grand Canyon talus piles are small. To an evolutionist, this is a mystery. Where is all the missing talus that must have formed over millions of years? Why are the world’s talus piles/slopes so skimpy?

If we view these talus slopes from a biblical viewpoint, however, it confirms the Bible. The piles of talus are so skimpy because they are only thousands of years old, having begun at the end of the Flood of Noah’s time (about 4400 years ago). The mystery of the missing talus is not a mystery at all when viewed from a biblical perspective.

Paleontology

Wisconsin is home to a very important fossil find – the jellyfish. So what’s the big deal about a fossil jellyfish?

In Central Wisconsin, near the town of Mosinee, there is a rock quarry. But this is no ordinary quarry; it contains many thousands of fossilized jellyfish. Why are they there? In the oceans, jellyfish are squishy blobs of clear gel. How could squishy jellyfish fossilize? Generally, hard substances become fossils – not soft substances. Also, if you have ever been to the beach, you have probably noticed seagulls eating things washed up on shore, maybe even a jellyfish. When animals wash up on shore, there are predators around to eat them – they simply do not lie on the shore waiting to be fossilized. Furthermore, when a jellyfish washes up on shore, it pumps its bell, trying to get back to the water. This will leave behind little rings in the sand. In this rock quarry, no evidence exists of fossilized rings around these jellyfish. A jellyfish is 96% water and would dry out and shrink if exposed to air. There is no fossil evidence that these jellyfish have shrunk.

Moreover, these jellyfish were not found in just one layer but were found buried in seven layers of the quarry over a thickness of 12 feet. So, what does all this evidence tell us? These jellyfish had to have been covered and fossilized quickly – and not just once – but repeatedly – to form the many layers. What event in history would have fast, quick coverage with mineral-filled sediment and no oxygen (the recipe for making fossils), so the creatures could be fossilized? The Flood of Noah!

And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die.

Geology

If the Genesis Flood took place, what kind of rock layers would have been produced? One such strong evidence supporting the biblical Flood is the world-wide occurrence of folded rock layers. Geologists find entire strata sequences that are folded without fracturing. This is only possible if the sedimentary layers were still soft and pliable (like modeling clay) when bent. In the same manner, if the molding clay dries out, it becomes hard and brittle, unable to bend without breaking or shattering. Many of these folded rock sequences show no sign of breaking or shattering.

So how do evolutionary (huge time period) geologists explain this? They ASSUME that deep in the earth, under enormous pressure and high temperatures, rocks can bend without shattering. Yet if this were true, the characteristics of the rocks would be changed by the heat. They would show metamorphism. When geologists examine many of these folded rocks, they find no evidence of metamorphism; therefore, these rocks were bent without enormous pressure and high temperatures. These folded sedimentary rocks are still sedimentary rocks! This can only mean that these folded rocks were still soft and pliable when folded. During the Genesis Flood, there would have been rapid movements of the plates on the earth’s crust.

No sooner would the floodwaters have laid down great quantities of sand and mud than rapidly moving plates would have pushed the sediment while still soft and pliable - resulting in folded rocks. The Genesis Flood would have been a powerfully destructive event leaving this type of evidence around the world.

And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth.

Design

Have you considered the poisonous snake’s venom and delivery system? This amazing delivery system is intricately designed, requiring eight parts:

  1. Venom - either a neurotoxin or hemotoxin.
    2. Venom gland to store venom.
    3. Canal to transfer the venom to the fangs.
    4. Hollow fangs, like a hypodermic needle, to inject the poison.
    5. Muscles to contract the venom reservoir.
    6. A nervous system to signal the muscles to contract.
    7. Spring loaded fangs to drop down when ready to bite.
    8. Instincts to know when and how to use all this against prey or predator.

All these parts needed to be present from the beginning for venomous snakes (such as the rattlesnake or cobra) to be able to deliver their venom, kill its prey, and have their lunch. If everything was present except for the hollow fangs, it would not work. If there was no venom, it would be just a bite. If the fangs were not able to drop down, the snake would poison itself. What good is “part of a snake”? All the parts needed to be there from the beginning. When we see such intricate designs, we know there must be a Designer, and that would be God.

He shall suck the poison of asps:  the viper’s tongue shall slay him.
